Did you know that it’s part of our mission here at Enable2, to provide “impactful social return initiatives to support people to live healthier, happier lives”? That’s why, in the last financial year, we invested £21,710 in 12 projects aimed, in their unique and individual ways, to help people from those communities who we provide interpreting and translation support to.

It’s been exciting work; collaborating with our wonderful and wide range of partners to decide together where and how to make maximum impact. As a result of our partnerships and the knowledge we have of the communities we work so closely with, we have invested in those areas where we know we can provide something special that will work towards better life chances.

We’ve raised awareness of modern slavery with powerful, theatre-based workshops to frontline workers, that have directly resulted in people being saved from oppression. We’ve helped busy dads to bond with their children in the great outdoors and feel part of the school community. We’ve helped asylum seekers and refugees to escape the stresses of their situation by taking them on day trips to a farm with their children. We’ve done so much! Our farm trips were even featured on BBC’s Countryfile!

But that’s not all. Our report features all our projects and how the positive repercussions go on to help even more people. For instance, our sessions to empower the carers of relatives with dementia were so successful and inspiring that we decided to replicate the project in another community. We want to take note of what has worked well, directly from feedback gathered, and use this wisely to plan our future work.

So, we’ve been busy in 2018/19, building on the successes of 2017/18. We are better equipped now, with the knowledge to do things even better. We now know that for every £1 we invest, there is a social value generated of £10.64. And we want to work on a method of collecting social value from the beneficiaries and customers who use our service so we can see clearly how and where best to help communities.

Helen Hoyle, Social Return Manager at Enable2 sets out the goal for the future:

“This important information [social value calculations and feedback] will help us in planning our future projects and guide us in assessing where our social return investment will have the most impact. We will look to repeat some of those activities that have had a markedly sizeable impact on participants. And we will also look to extend our reach to support projects further afield, in line with the expansion of Enable2 CIC’s core interpreting business.”

We look forward to being able to report that even more people were helped to better life outcomes in the years to come, and raising the value of every £1 invested, for our communities.
